Nutrition
Kristen's passion for nutrition began in high school when she began experimenting in the family kitchen by preparing fresh, healthy meals for her parents and siblings. As a high school athlete on the Long Beach Jr. Crew Varsity Rowing Team from 1988-1991, she began to experience the positive impact that whole food nutrition had on her athletic performance and recovery. After completing her B.A. in Physical Anthropology at the University of California Santa Barbara in 1996, she enrolled in a full-time culinary arts program at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. Kristen worked at One Market restaurant in San Francisco and trained under well known and respected chefs in the San Francisco Bay Area. She completed her internship in the pastry kitchen at the Four Seasons Biltmore Resort in Santa Barbara and was offered a full-time position upon graduating from culinary school. Within a year, Kristen returned to San Francisco, where she was offered a full-time position in the pastry kitchen at the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco.
Kristen later left the hotel industry to pursue her desire to create a life where she was able to focus on family-first and be in control of her schedule and her financial future. In 2010, Kristen was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease, that she later discovered she could manage through simple changes to her daily nutrition. Adding Juice Plus+ capsules and plant-based protein shakes significantly improved her digestion, energy, immunity, and post-exercise recovery. Fueled by a desire to learn more about the power of whole food nutrition, at the age of 40, Kristen applied to graduate school. She completed her M.S. degree in Nutrition at Northeastern University in December 2015, and her certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from eCornell. Kristen focuses on whole food plant-based nutrition and simple, achievable goals.
